So, to set the scene, it’s the first Tuesday in November, I have a first four on, but instead of watching the races, I’m in the bathroom - my missus about to pop, nine months preggo.

In between screams and expletives, I can just overhear the telly and the channel seven Cup Coverage. Bruce and Francesca are talking about the horses, who seem to be in the mounting yard or going into the barriers for the Race that Stops a Nation… well almost stops a nation, as my better half hasn’t paused for it. Thankfully, neither did the ambos.

Help arrives and we have a healthy boy born. How good is that?!

Adding to my joy, the paramedics let me ride in the ambulance with my baby mumma who has just done herself proud, and I pull out my phone and watch a replay of the race – still not knowing the placings.

Dunaden, Red Cadeaux, Lucas Cranach, Amercain, and I had the first four to go with my first boy! I thought my missus had pulled out a miracle, but I actually had pipped her at the post for the families best effort of the day (jokes).

The bet cost me $70 and returned $10,000 and my lad was born on the 1/11/2011 which isn’t a bad birthday, and a great story for his old man to tell every chance I get.
