There’s an old saying that ‘racing is a great leveller’. And how true that was for me last Saturday. A week after tipping up a storm (and letting everyone know about it), I was deadset shithouse. I simply couldn’t get near them. Bloody hell, even Tom Melbourne nearly won - he should have! It was an embarrassing performance from me, right alongside the Dockers’ loss to the Swans as the worst of the sporting weekend. But, after spending much of the week busking the streets of Melbourne in order to put food on the table, I’ve had a good look in the mirror, given myself a stern talking to, and been able to muster the courage to go again. Be warned, though, my confidence, which was at Floyd Mayweather levels this time last week, is at an all-time low.

Try your luck in one of our exciting racing tournaments!

CHIPS IN

Sayed (Randwick Race 2, No.1)

We made this guy our Chips In bet two weeks ago and he absolutely shit it. Unfortunately, we won’t get the same price on Saturday (incredibly, he started at $4.60), but he should get the job done again for us. He’s pretty well in at the weights and many of his rivals are those he spanked last time out. He’s 2/2 at 2400m, 1/1 at Randwick, is trained by the genius Chris Waller, and has Hugh Bowman to do the steering. I reckon he should be winning again, and hopefully we can get $1.80.

BART TO BOUNCE BACK

Black Heart Bart (Caulfield Race 7, No.3)

Bart was disappointing in the Group 1 Darley Goodwood two starts ago, before again finishing out of the money in the G1 Kingsford Smith on that cow paddock at Eagle Farm. I’m prepared to rule a line through that Brisbane run, and after a little break, I’m banking on him showing his true colours in this. He absolutely loves Caulfield (6:5-1-0), and is 4/4 there over 1400m. He should get a lovely run from gate 4 (which he will start from if Lankan Rupee runs in Adelaide as expected), and the $3 appeals.

CLASS SHOULD PREVAIL

Catchy (Caulfield Race 5, No.1)

She’s a bloody star, this filly, and I reckon she’ll be too classy for her rivals. Sure, she’s first up, and has bigger fish to fry later on, but she has been trialling the house down, and the conditions of the race (set weights plus penalties) suit. She’s 4/5 overall (her only blemish was on a bottomless track in the Golden Slipper), 3/3 here and 2/2 at 1100m. Expect her to start at around $3.

WINX!

And, don’t forget to sit back and watch the great mare Winx stroll home and make it 18 wins on the spin in the G2 Warwick Stakes at Randwick at 3pm.
