In case you’d missed any of the Swans previous six campaigns, Josh Kennedy was made for finals football… and there’s a very novel reason why.

Affectionately known as “Joey”, the Sydney skippers Australian Rules pedigree is famous across the league. The son of a four time Hawthorn premiership player, John Kennedy Jnr, and grand son of three time VFL Premiership coach, John Kennedy Snr – Josh was “born for finals” a source close to the family said, adding “it’s in his DNA”.

“It’s my understanding that he (Josh) was conceived the morning of the 1987 Granny.”

Our informant, a distant relative and pub owner from Burnley, tells this publication that the 1987 VFL Grand Final, played between Carlton and Hawthorn, was exactly nine months before the birth of Josh (born 20/6/1988).

He also added, with some degree of amusement, that “people think John Jnr only scored three times that day (kicking three goals), when in actual fact, he scored four times if you count the build up”.

Although John Kennedy Jnr declined to comment, he has been quoted previously as saying “I don’t know what it was about September, but it always stirred something inside of me.”

So, it appears Josh wasn’t only made for finals football, he was also made during them.
