There I was, a 20 year old, poor, University Student, with nothing… except a big love for The World Game.
So I spent my considerable down-time between lectures deciding what bets to place in Europe’s biggest leagues, and how to find enough value to turn my $50 into something good.
After looking at all the games from Spain, Germany, Italy and the EPL, I put together an impressive eight leg multi, which stood to return me a life changing $39,500 from a single pineapple ($50 note). Fast forward and I’m seven legs down – it’s happening! So I stayed up to watch my final leg, the Bradford City game...
Due to some poor form and missing key players, I got juicy odds on them, and it was all set to turn around with big name ins back in the squad. Again, my analysis didn’t disappoint me with The Bantams going 2-0 up after 38 minutes. Staying up until 4am is well and truly worth it to the tune of almost $40,000… And there’s the half time whistle.
At the resumption of play my euphoria continues to grow when a 49th minute own goal puts them / me up 3-0. By this time I’m online searching Car Sales and envisaging how I’m going to treat myself.
Five minutes later it’s 3 – 1 but there’s no panic. Then Walsall went BANG and it’s 3 – 2 and now they’ve got belief and there’s life in the game. I’m out of Car Sales and trying to smash the “cash out” button, but no – it’s suspended and I’m starting to feel sick in the guts.
Bradford are made me feel a little better as they start defending wilfully, and regaining some shape at the back and negating the long balls, dinks and light touches being thrown at them. Now there’s three minutes left. 180 seconds for $39,500.
A quick counter attack is on… Bradford are scrambled but somehow break up the play and the ball is deflected wide. A cross eventually comes from it towards the giant billboard sized head of Amadou Bakayoko who makes no worry of the chance and sticks it past the keeper making it 3 – 3 in the 88th minute. ABSOLUTE HEARTBREAK… until…
Nope, there was no miracle last minute Bradford winner. From 3 – 0 up in the second half, they rip the $40K from my hands.
But like a good punter, I went again the next week.
