Steve Smith has revealed he likes to punish himself after a very occasional low score with the bat.

In an interview with 800.85 FMs Bazza and Mungo Breakfast show, the Australian number four went into detail of how he “self harms” if he gets out cheaply.

“I usually give myself a belting with my bat of nine tails” said the former skipper.

His bat of nine tails is a variation of the infamous cat o nine tails, with “Smudge” explaining he uses a cricket handle connected to a multi tailed whip to lash himself.

“I actually got the idea while watching The Davinci Code”.

Controversially, the star went on to say it was his favourite Tom Hanks film, closely followed by Turner & Hooch.

Unfortunately the interview was cut short as the Champion Cricketer informed the shows producers he was late for a waterboarding session he’d made after dropping a catch at training earlier in the day.
